Parties all out to woo Vattiyurkavu voters

Clean-up activities on Gandhi Jayanti day to mark campaigning

Gandhi Jayanti will be a day of no rest for the candidates of the various parties with the byelection fast approaching in Vattiyurkavu constituency.

Most of them have integrated the usual cleaning programmes on Gandhi Jayanti with their campaign schedules. CPI(M) candidate V.K. Prasanth’s campaign machinery has floated a group called ‘Friends of Mayor Bro’, which will take up cleaning activities.

According to a press release, the group consists of youth who have actively participated in the waste management activities of the city Corporation. The group will be cleaning up the RKV road, near Museum Police Station. The group has also invited the public to be part of the clean-up activities, which will begin at 8 a.m.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kummanam Rajasekharan, who was earlier tipped to be the party’s candidate in Vattiyurkavu constituency for the upcoming byelection, appeared in S. Suresh’s election convention on Tuesday.

He said that he would be campaigning full-time in the constituency to ensure Suresh’s win. He also dismissed the claims by LDF and UDF that he was sidelined. He said that V.K. Prasanth was made a candidate in Vattiyurkavu, to prevent him from becoming a candidate from Kadakampally Surendran’s constituency Kazhakuttam.

Congress candidate K. Mohankumar will begin his campaign on Wednesday from the Law College junction and will cover the area from there to Plamood junction.
