The arrests of a woman and her younger son were recorded on Saturday in connection with the murder of her elder son near Parassala on Friday.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Saraswathy, 47, and Sajin, 20. They have been arrested for the alleged murder of 25-year-old Santhosh at their house in Kodivilakom on Friday. The victim was found lying in a pool of blood after being purportedly bludgeoned by an iron rod. The victim’s father, Sreedharan, continues to be at large, the police said. The accused have been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 120 (concealing design to commit offence) of the Indian Penal Code.

The family members have been accused of plotting the crime and executing it after driven to their wits’ end over Santhosh’s violent methods and addiction to liquor and drugs.

Before assaulting him using the iron rod, the accused allegedly threw formic acid on his face, the police added.
