Parassala diocese comes into being

Thomas Mar Eusebius consecrated as the first bishop

Thomas Mar Eusebius was consecrated as the first bishop of the newly erected diocese of Parassala during the holy Mass celebrated at a specially prepared venue at Mar Ivanios Nagar (Nazareth Home School ground) at Balaramapuram on Saturday.

Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Church, was the chief celebrant for the episcopal ordination ceremony and inauguration of the new eparchy that has St. Teresa of Kolkata as the patron saint.

Syrian Catholic Patriarch of Antioch Ignatius Yousuf Younan, Apostolic Nuncio (Vatican Ambassador) to India Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro, Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, Metropolitan Archbishop of Thiruvalla Thomas Mar Koorilos, Supreme Court judge Kurian Joseph, Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity Sister Mary Prema, and other bishops of the church were accorded a ceremonial reception on their arrival at Mar Ivanios Nagar.

After his installation as the first Metropolitan of the Parassala diocese, Thomas Mar Eusebius was greeted by Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council president Archbishop M. Soosa Pakiam, head of the Latin Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram; Changanassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Perumthottam; and Neyyattinkara Bishop Vincent Samuel.

The new diocese has been established by including the parishes in the ecclesiastical districts of Parassala, Neyyatinkara, and Kattakada and two parishes in the ecclesiastical district of Thiruvananthapuram.
