The Attingal police have arrested a 48-year-old man who was allegedly behind a number of burglaries in the Attingal, Kilimanoor, and Venjaramoodu areas but escaped the police net so far.

The accused was identified as Krishnankutti, alias Kodali Baby.

The police said he was suspected to be behind as many as 29 burglaries in the Attingal subdivision in the past four years.

He would burgle locked houses after hacking at the front door with an axe or setting the door on fire.

It was his habit of scouting for houses to be burgled on a blue scooter that led to his arrest, the police said. The presence of the scooter, registered in his daughter’s name, at the locations where the burglaries were committed led to the accused.

Krishnankutti admitted to the burglaries and helped the police recover 106 sovereigns of gold from two jewelleries in Attingal and Venjaramoodu, the police said.
