From handmade jewellery to colourful fabrics, a whole range of interesting items from Odisha and North Eastern States are on display at Odisha Grameen Mela Handloom and Handicrafts Fair at the VJT Hall. Colourful handcraft products, jewellery, precious stones, paintings, leather products and craft items vie for attention at the fair, which brings together rural weavers from the eastern part of India.

“The art and craft of Odisha is known around the world. The handmade jewellery, carpets, durries, marble crafts, ivory, paintings, colourful fabrics such Bandhani and Bandhej which all portray rich cultural heritage of the State are on display. These items can be directly procured from the craftsmen at the fair,” said Manas Acharya, organiser of the fair.

The exhibition is all about the use of traditional handloom skills to create contemporary lifestyle products. Biswajit Saha from Dhaka presents the fabled Dhakai muslin Jamdaani sari. The jute-muslin saris make a classic statement with their delicate stripes. The pallus are embellished with huge jute and gold kairis. Also part of Saha’s collection is the less expensive Tangails.

Gift products abound at the mela, which will be on till June 25.
