The State Election Commission has issued guidelines for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to exercise their franchise in the local government elections.

As per the guidelines, electoral registration officers should take five copies of the voters’ list of NRIs and hand over four copies to the returning officers concerned.

When NRIs reach the polling station for casting their votes, they should furnish the original passport as identification document.

Exclusive list

Since the commission has prepared exclusive voters list of NRIs, polling officers have been directed to mark the details of the serial numbers of such votes in the voter register.

For identification voters could furnish voter ID card issued by the commission, passport, driving licence, PAN card, Aadhaar card and SSLC book with photo as ID proof.

Poll observer

Munnar Forest Divisional Officer K.R. Sabu has been appointed as general election observer for Idukki district. He can be accessed on 9447979045, an election commission release said.
