Now, dogs also have a getaway from their mundane lives, where they can relax and get pampered.

The Commando dog hostel and training centre, Peyad, has recently started a beauty parlour, where pet dogs are cleaned, groomed, and even have their hair dyed in different colours.

The parlour, the first of its kind in Kerala, was set up in the wake of requests by dog-owners in Technopark, according to Commando’s proprietor V. Suresh Kumar.

“Working couples, who would rather spend their Sundays getting some much-needed leisure, can give their dogs to us for a day to get them cleaned and groomed,” he says. At the parlour, the dogs will be given a bath along with massages, and their hair and nails will be trimmed.

Hair colouring, complete and partial, is also on offer.

Refreshing course

Commando also offers a ‘Refreshing Course,’ where pet dogs can spend around one to three weeks getting massaged, playing games and exercising. The course is a means of rejuvenation for dogs that have become lethargic and/or suffering from illness.

It is intended for dogs between the age of six months and eight years, and includes 20-minute body massages in the morning and evening, oil massages, various games that the dogs would enjoy, and exercises including swimming, along with which they would be treated to their favourite food items. The diet at the course also includes tonics and other vitamin supplements for nutrition.

A health check-up will be conducted before the refreshing course. In case of illness, the course will begin only after it is cured.

The duration of the course varies according the nature and health condition of the dogs. Owners can visit their dogs once a week during the course.

Other services offered by Commando include the sale, boarding, a mobile unit for medical treatment and grooming of pet dogs. It also undertakes ‘dog disposal,’ wherein it receives dogs from owners who cannot or do not wish to take care of them anymore and puts them up for adoption, and the cremation of dogs.

The 20-year old enterprise has received nine awards from the State government for its services, and has around two lakh clients across the State.

Those who wish to avail the services can contact 9387810799.
