No art without poetry: Kanayi

June 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Noted sculptor and writer Kanayi Kunhiraman has said that every work of art must radiate poetic energy.

“Be it a sculpture, painting or prose, each work of art must be imbued with the spirit of poetry. Otherwise, it will not touch the heart of the connoisseur,” the eminent sculptor said while releasing Mounam Sthuthi , a novel by A. Jayakumar here on Wednesday. All art forms should evoke a positive energy in the minds of readers and viewers. “When we visit a temple, we get positive energy just by looking at the sculptures,” he said.

Poetry, he said, is everywhere and not just in verse. Poetry can be discerned in today’s paintings, novels and sculptures. However, he could find no poetry in the films being made today, Mr. Kunhiraman said.

Former Doordarshan additional director general and writer K. Kunhikrishnan received the first copy of the novel from Mr. Kunhiraman. Poet Ezhacherry Ramachandran chaired the meeting and former chairman and managing director of HLL LifeCare Limited G. Rajmohan offered felicitations.
