New Auxiliary Bishop for Latin archdiocese


Christudas Rajappan was appointed the new Auxiliary Bishop of the Latin archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

Fr. Christudas has been serving as Rector of the St. Vincent’s Seminary at Kazhakuttam and as Parish Priest at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at Kochuthura. The Papal declaration was read out by Thiruvananthapuram Archbishop Soosa Pakiam M. at the St. Joseph’s Metropolitan Cathedral at Palayam at 4.50 p.m., when the same was read out in Rome, according to church officials.

The appointment was declared during the Holy Mass celebrated to mark the conclusion of the Year of Consecrated Life that was observed by the Church. The declaration was also made on the occasion of the 26th anniversary celebrations of the Episcopal Consecration of Archbishop Soosa Pakiam. On the occasion, the Archbishop said that his request to step down from his position on account of certain ailments was turned down by the Pope.

Born to Rajappan and Angelina in Adimalathura as the eldest of six children on November 25, 1971, the Auxiliary Bishop completed his schooling in Lourdepuram and Pulluvila.

He completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at the Papal Seminary in Pune and was ordained priest on November 25, 1998.

He has secured a Doctorate in Missiology from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome.
