A 45-year-old man, who allegedly murdered Aji of Velikkodu near Ooruttambalam, late on Sunday has been arrested on Monday by the Naruvamoodu police.

According to the police, the accused – Joy, also of Velikkodu, had allegedly beaten to death Aji with an iron rod at around 9.30 p.m. on Sunday after an argument over a property deal between the two. Aji, police said, was the caretaker of a plot, for which Joy had paid an advance to the owner. However, the owner reportedly kept delaying the final execution of the deal, which infuriated Joy.

He reportedly erected a tent on the plot on Sunday, following which an argument broke out between him and Aji, who was allegedly in an inebriated condition.

The argument ended with Joy using an iron rod to bludgeon Aji, who later succumbed to serious head injuries.

Joy was nabbed on Monday and will be produced before court on Tuesday.
