Mullaperiyar: Governor reiterates Kerala’s stand

Governor H.R. Bharadwaj on Thursday said the Mullaperiyar crisis was one of the foremost challenges the Oommen Chandy government had to face since coming into office nearly 10 months ago.

In his address to the Assembly, he said it was commendable that the House had shown solidarity in insisting that the old dam should make way for a new one.

“While my government is keen to ensure that the longstanding warm and cordial relationship between the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala is preserved and fostered, it shall welcome an amicable resolution to the crisis, unflinchingly pursuing its avowed commitment to building a new day based on the principle of ‘Water for Tamil Nadu and Safety for Kerala’,” he said.
