MPI to supply animal tissues to SCTIMST

Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology has entered into an agreement with the Meat Products of India (MPI), wherein the latter will supply disease-free animal tissues to the SCTIMST for developing biomedical devices such as cardiac patches, wound care patches, and tissue heart valves.

The MoU was signed by Director of SCTIMST Asha Kishore and Managing Director of the MPI A.S. Bijulal on Tuesday, in the presence of Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Raju.

The SCTIMST has the know-how for processing animal tissues for medical use, complying with international standards, for which it has secured Indian patents also.

The MPI has a modern abattoir, certified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, from where it can supply disease-free animal tissue as per specifications.
