The State Cabinet has sanctioned an additional Rs.83.54 crore to the Public Works Department (PWD) for taking up road repairs in the Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Kollam municipal corporations.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told presspersons after the weekly Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday that the allocation was in addition to the Rs.74.42 crore sanctioned for taking up road repairs in the Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi corporations. With the present allotment, the total amount sanctioned for road repairs in the five municipal corporations in the State would go up to Rs.157.96 crore, he said.

Mr. Chandy said the funds had been sanctioned subject to the condition that the roads taken up for repair had a width of 3.75 metres to facilitate at least single lane traffic and were connected to other major PWD roads.
