ASHAs to get insurance cover

Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in the State – 27,957 of them – will be given insurance cover, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.

Speaking at a Senior Medical Officers’ conference, the monthly review of the Health Services’ activities, here on Thursday, Mr. Sivakumar said that this was the first time in the country that such a scheme was being devised for ASHAs.

The honorarium due to ASHAs till March 2015 – Rs.23,48,38,800 – had been released for distribution, he said. He directed all district programme managers of the National Health Mission to submit reports after disbursing the dues.

Mr. Sivakumar directed that availability of medicines in health facilities across the State be ensured and that the SAFE Kerala scheme be carried out more effectively. NHM Director Minhaj Alam, Director of Health Services N. Sreedhar and other senior health officials were present at the meeting. — Special Correspondent
