Mission to educate people on water sustainability

With cities and districts in the country facing acute water shortage, the spotlight is on conservation of this renewable but limited resource. Globally too, consumption of water has increased drastically and many countries are looking at water deficits.

Project Sthithi, under the Change can Change Climate Change initiative, has launched a Water Education Mission to create sustainability in water supply and availability.

The theme of the mission is ‘Water matters: either conserve or suffer.’

Project Sthithi will sensitise the public (with the help of residents’ welfare associations, Kudumbashree, and NGOs), students, professionals, and government employees to issues such as source sustainability, water quality management, and better operation and maintenance.

Participatory and inclusive programmes will be rolled out to generate grass-root level awareness of water conservation, sources said.

The project team will have the support of 100 skilled trainers in its mission.

Bharath Govind, head, Project Sthithi, said that water was linked to the health and socio-economic well-being of the people.

The mission was launched at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nedumangad, on Wednesday.
