A mild tremor of magnitude 2.3 was felt at Vamanapuram near here around 1.51 p.m. on Wednesday
The tremor was recorded and gauged at the seismology unit of the Centre for Earth Science Studies at Peechi. District Collector K.N. Satheesh said that no damage to property was reported from the area.
John Mathai, scientist at CESS, said that Vamanapuram was geologically characterised by fault lines and was susceptible to minor tremors such as the one that occurred on Wednesday.
Throughout the 1990s there had been similar tremors in the area and the strongest recent tremor, of magnitude 3.2, was recorded in 2006, he added.
