The capital city has not been kind to its independent musicians and bands, especially the ones dabbling in metal. there are hardly any avenues to perform and hardly anyone recognises these metal-heads. To add to it, the mainstream tends to view them with tinted glasses. In recent months, the metal scene in the city witnessed new vigour with the arrival of some young bands.
‘Mutiny’ and ‘Mindfield’ are part of this crop. Devoid of venues to perform, they decided to get together and do it on their own. Thus was born the ‘Resurrection’ metal festival, which will be held at the Boban Residency in Manjalikkulam on Saturday from 5 p.m., featuring seven metal bands.
“We all started playing around the same time and our only platforms were the college competitions. The city had a very active metal scene till a few years back. We thought of reviving that and hence the name ‘Resurrection’,” says Akhil, Vocalist of ‘Mutiny’.
Headlining the event will be thrash metal titans ‘Chaos,’ who have been active in the scene for a decade and have been feted widely for their debut album ‘Violent Redemption’. Among the supporting acts will be Cherthala based thrash-metallers ‘Amorphia’ who recently got selected for the Wacken Open Air metal battle. Two death metal bands, ‘Decaying Humanity’ and Kochi-based ‘Occultism’ are also part of the list. Rounding off the line-up will be ‘Toxic Waltz’, a thrash metal band from Kochi.
