E. Sreedharan, State Planning Board member and Principal Adviser, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, has urged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to set up the Technological University in Thrissur.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Sreedharan has said the government’s decision to set up the university to affiliate all technical institutions is a very timely and progressive step. “I am, however, disappointed to know that it is being located in Thiruvananthapuram,” he said.
Mr. Sreedharan said a rational and more logical step would be to locate the university more or less in the centre of the State so that affiliated colleges could have an easy access to it. From this angle, Thrissur would have been an ideal location where Agricultural University and Medical University are situated.
Thrissur has an added advantage that the second oldest engineering college of the State, the Government Engineering College, which is still a premier engineering college, is situated here. Mr. Sreedharan said the Central and northern parts of the State are not as developed as the south.
From this angle also locating the university in Thrissur is desirable.
