Aim is to ensure use of smartphones for kid’s education

Even as children seem to take to the latest technology like a duck to water, many parents find it daunting. Now, the Little KITEs information technology (IT) clubs in State schools will familiarise mothers of students with the high-tech facilities set up in schools as part of the government’s Public Education Rejuvenation Mission.

The training for mothers will also facilitate creation of conditions at home to enable students to use the Samagra portal and the QR code on textbooks.

This stems from the mandate of the Little KITEs clubs set up in schools by the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) to equip other students, parents, and the public to navigate the world of technology, particularly through training.

KITE will publish complete details of schools in the form of QR codes for the benefit of the public.

The QR codes that contain the link to the Sametham portal ( www.sametham.kite.

kerala.gov.in ) in which the details of all schools are uploaded will be displayed near the main school entrances for easy public access.

QR code

On scanning the QR code, anyone will be able to access the Sametham portal as well as the School Wiki portal that facilitates a culture of collaborative learning among students.

The KITE initiative comes against the backdrop of an increase in Internet use through mobile phones among parents, KITE vice chairperson K. Anvar Sadath said.

One of the main aims of the training to mothers is to ensure maximum use of smartphones for children’s education-related activities.

Apps needed for the training will be made available to the parents in advance.

They then have to attend the trainings with smartphones in hand.

During the training, mothers will be taught how to scan the QR codes in the revised textbooks for Classes IX and X and use the resources therein.

They would familiarise themselves with the new classroom learning techniques under the high-tech school project, learn how to use of resources on the Samagra portal and get introduced to the educational content telecast on Victers channel and facilities on the Sametham portal, and other aspects of cyber safety,

1.15 lakh students

At present, 1.15 lakh students are members of the 2,060 Little KITEs units in State schools.
