: Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) leaders appeared to be cautious in their response to the developments in the ruling UDF and the possibility of the Kerala Congress (B) being told to move out of the ruling alliance.

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan and other CPI(M) leaders seemed inclined to take a positive stand on KC(B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai in the event of the UDF high-power committee meeting, to be held here on Wednesday, deciding to initiate action against him, but they were careful not to be seen as being too enthusiastic about accommodating Mr. Pillai in the Opposition alliance. Mr. Achuthanandan told reporters in Kollam that the LDF would take a serious note of it if Mr. Pillai and Government Chief Whip P.C. George were serious about pursuing their corruption charges.
