Law Minister slams Congress for raising ‘non-issues’

June 22, 2015 02:44 am | Updated 03:24 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Congress has no serious issue on hand to raise against the BJP and the Centre and is harping on the Lalit Modi issue, Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has said.

Participating in a Meet-the-Press programme organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club here on Sunday, Mr. Gowda said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj helped former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi on humanitarian grounds for the treatment of his wife who was suffering from cancer.

Her intervention was only to save the life of a person and she had not done anything to facilitate his immigration application. The allegations against the Minister’s husband, Swaraj Kaushal, and her daughter were insignificant. As practising lawyers, they were acting in a professional manner. There was no instance of corruption in the issue. Same was true in the case of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasudhara Raje and her son Dushyant Singh, MP, he said

Despite being in power, the Congress had done nothing to bring Mr. Modi back to the country.

With the NDA government coming to power, the Congress was left without any issue to be raised against the government and hence was raking up non-issues.
