LACK OF RECOGNISED SCHOOLS

Children’s education at risk in Wayanad: VS

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan on Saturday said the educational prospects of 3,500 children in Wayanad were at risk due to lack of recognised schools and teachers.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, he said five State-run high schools (upgraded in 2013) at Binachi, Rippon, Kurumbala, Pulinjal, and Thettimala were yet to get government recognition. Hence, the students in these schools would not be able to appear for the SSLC examination this academic year.

Local people and Parent-Teacher Association authorities had pooled money to hire teachers for the children of these schools.

Many parents had enlisted their children in private schools. The government should urgently intervene in the matter, Mr. Achuthanandan said. — Special Correspondent
