Kind deeds of auto drivers

May 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

At a time when autorickshaw drivers in the city are lampooned for their roguish behaviour, two drivers from the Thampanoor prepaid auto stand have set an example.

The two, Mohammed Salim of Paruthikuzhi and Anil Kumar of Poundkadavu, had taken a group of pilgrims from Chennai, led by one Swami, to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here around 1 p.m. on Thursday. The group, however, forgot a bag in one auto and another bag containing gold ornaments weighing eight sovereigns in the other vehicle.

The drivers, who noticed the bags on returning to the stand, handed them over to Suresh V. Nair, Circle Inspector, Thampanoor, immediately. By evening, the police managed to trace the pilgrim group and returned their belongings, including the gold. Mr. Nair said the drivers had set an example for others, who have been in the news for all the wrong reasons, including drunk driving, refusing short trips and abusing passengers.
