Kerala woos Arab travellers

May 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Ayurveda-themed pavilion of Kerala Tourism is a hit among Arab visitors at the ongoing Arabian Travel Market 2015 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Visitors to the pavilion get a feel of Kerala’s flora and fauna, placid backwaters, and copious monsoon.

Ambassador of India to the United Arab Emirates T.P. Seetharam inaugurated the India pavilion. He visited the Kerala stand and interacted with the trade partners from the State. The inaugural function featured a Kathakali performance by artistes from Kerala. A team led by Director, Tourism, P.I. Sheik Pareeth, and Managing Director of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Ali Asgar Pasha, is representing the State in the four-day fair.

Huge inflow

In 2014, as many as 48,346 tourists from Saudi Arabia, 17,475 from the UAE and 17,239 from Oman visited the State. “From the Middle East alone, we have more than one lakh visitors last year,” Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar said. Kerala Tourism is planning to conduct a massive destination promotional campaign targeting the promising Middle East market and Arab travellers.
