Illegal land sale: Govt. warns of action

The government on Thursday issued a stern warning following reports that a racket, involving property dealers, was parcelling out government land illegally to fishermen families for construction of houses at Adimalathura.

Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty Amma said the government would initiate legal action against the scamsters. “Such a racket is unheard of. Who authorised these people to sell government property? They will be brought to book.”

The Minister said the unauthorised housing project for fisherfolk would be brought under the scanner. She pointed out that the Fisheries Department had been forced to drop the housing project at Adimalathura following stiff protest by a section of people who argued that the site was unsuitable and too close to the sea.

A pressnote quoting the Minister said the same people were now reportedly parcelling the land and selling it at ₹1 lakh for three cents. “The government will not allow this,” she said, promising stern action.
