IAP State meet begins


Kerala has emerged as a model for child-friendly health policies for the entire country, Health Minister, V. S. Sivakumar, has said.

Inaugurating the State-level meeting of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) here on Saturday, Mr. Sivakumar said the State's efforts at bringing down maternal mortality and infant mortality had been paying off. He said this year, Kerala had been chosen at the national level as the best child-friendly State.

The IAP's programme of village adoption was also inaugurated by the Minister. IAP will adopt one village in every district and join hands with the MP concerned to improve child health and disease prevention activities, including immunisation.

In Thiruvananthapuram district, IAP will cooperate with Shashi Tharoor, MP, and adopt Kottukal village . It will also adopt Anchu Thengu village.
