History-sheeter arrested

The City police on Thursday arrested a 53-year-old man wanted in connection with several theft cases in various parts of the State.

The accused has been identified as Babu, alias Theevetti Babu, who hails from Parippally in Kollam. He, after being released on bail from the Central Prison at Poojappura 10 days ago, went on to commit numerous crimes across the State, the police said.

The accused broke into an oil mill near Kattu Road, Poojappura, and stole money some days ago.

The police had obtained visuals of the crime from the CCTV cameras installed in the mill. The accused had also committed thefts from many houses, including one at Kayamkulam. Recently, a case was registered against him at the Parippally police station for having threatened police officers who had apprehended his son, Nandu, on charges of extorting money and valuables from migrant labourers.

The history-sheeter had been involved in various crime, including theft and assault, for the past 30 years. Over 100 cases had been registered against him in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam. He had been placed under preventive detention under provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act in the past.
