The Neyyattinkara police on Friday arrested history-sheeter Jain Victor, alias Parakkumthalika Baiju, of Kattakada who had remained absconding for long.

He was apprehended by the police with the assistance of the Government Railway Police at the Neyyattinkara railway station on Thursday evening. He was caught with alleged possession of 1.25 kg of ganja.

The accused is known to have facilitated the escape of Ernakulam Biju, another habitual offender, from near the Neyyattinkara court premises a year ago when the latter was being escorted by the police. Recently, Baiju was allegedly involved in an altercation with a gang at Vilappil.

He was also found to have stolen a motorcycle. The accused had around 50 cases registered against him in various police stations in the district. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
