Helping children make friends with archives

‘Children, friends of archives,’ an outreach programme organised by the Archives Department, was launched at Karthika Thirunal Vocational and Higher Secondary School for Girls, Manacaud, here on Wednesday.

Minister for Archives Kadannappaly Ramachandran inaugurated the two-day interactive programme.

Need for awareness

In his address, he stressed the need to create awareness among the young generation of the importance and value of our heritage and its conservation.

In every school

Poet Murukan Kattakada was the chief guest.

Archives director J. Rejikumar presided over the meeting. Archives assistant director P. Biju and school authorities were present.

Each month, the programme will be held in a school.

The first day of the programme will be held on school premises and the second day, select children will visit the Central Archives to see what historical records are and how these are preserved.
