The Kazhakuttam police have arrested a 22-year-old man under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after allegedly marrying a minor girl.

Gokul, a resident of Chenkottukonam, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody for entering into wedlock with a 17-year-old girl after she coerced her parents into agreeing to the wedding.

According to Kazhakuttam station house officer (SHO) S. Ajai Kumar, the girl had slit her wrist three months ago when her parents had refused to agree to the marriage.

The parents were compelled to give in to her demand, considering the gravity of the situation, the officer said.

The incident came to light when the Childline received information about the marriage.
