Headload workers to bear less

Maximum load brought down to 55 kg

The maximum load that can be handled by a headload worker in Kerala will be brought down to 55 kg, a reduction of 20 kg.

The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the draft amendment to the Kerala Headload Workers Act for the purpose.

The Bill also prescribes a maximum load of 35 kg for women and youth between the age of 15 and 18 years.

The amendment is in accordance with the recommendations of the International Labour Conference in Geneva.

Appointments

The Cabinet decided to appoint Anand Singh as GST Commissioner with additional charge of Secretary, Public Works. Tinku Biswal will be appointed Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs, and Mohammed Ali will be the Managing Director, Malabar Cements.

K.C. Jayakumar will be appointed Managing Director, Kerala Agro Industries Corporation, on deputation from HLL Lifecare for one year.

The meeting also resolved to implement the projects cleared by the high power committee of the Rebuild Kerala Initiative with loan assistance from the World Bank.
