N.V. Krishna Warrier was a poet with a prophetic vision who firmly believed that his role was to become part of the process of change, scholar and Rajya Sabha member C.P. Narayanan has said. Inaugurating a function held here on Friday to mark the 101st birth anniversary of the the late poet and scholar, Mr. Narayanan said the themes of Krishna Warrier’s poems reflected the concern of the present times.
As a journalist and writer, he was one who thought of the future and acted in keeping with his beliefs. He was a voracious reader and had deep knowledge of diverse subjects.
“He was the one who brought Sugathakumari and other environmental activists together to wage a struggle to protect Silent Valley, an evergreen forest in Kerala,” he added.
Addressing the meeting, critic P. Soman said Malayalam criticism had failed to understand Krishna Warrier and his poems.
While all the poets of his time wrote about the fading beauty of nature and village, he wrote about the changes that came about in Kerala society and culture following the industrial revolution and the emergence of new technologies.
