The teachings of Sree Narayana Guru acquire increasing relevance with the passage of time, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.
He was speaking after inaugurating the headquarters of the Sree Narayana International Study Centre at Chempazhanthy, near here, on Wednesday. Even when there are caste-triggered problems all over the country, Kerala has been able to retain its secular and peaceful character thanks to the Guru's teachings.
The Guru cannot be considered as belonging to any one section of the people; on the contrary he is the common treasure of all of Kerala. He not only expounded many ideas and ideals but also realised them in a practical manner, Mr. Chandy said.
The second phase of activities at the Centre would be implemented in a time-bound manner. Necessary funds would be allocated for this.
In his presidential address, Cultural Affairs Minister K. C. Joseph said the philosophy of the Guru is gaining increasing relevance when all around the world many an ideology are turning out to be failures. The Minister later unveiled the portrait of the Guru.
