Graft allegations

Probe against Thachankery

June 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Saturday ordered a preliminary quick verification against Inspector General (IG) Tomin J. Thachankery on charges of corruption.

A set of granite miners had petitioned the Minister that the IPS officer, at present Managing Director, Consumerfed, had swindled an estimated Rs.8 crore out of them by selling them a stone quarry that possessed no operational licence. They alleged that a nominee (benami) of Mr. Thachankery owned the quarry. They submitted recordings of telephone conversations, which purportedly “showed” the IG transacting the “fraudulent deal.”

The official was currently facing an inquiry on the charge of foreign travel without official sanction. There was also a disproportionate assets inquiry pending against him. — Special Correspondent
