Government orders land acquisition for bridge


The government has issued orders for acquisition of one-acre land for constructing the Vallakkadavu bridge.

The Revenue Department issued the order based on a directive from the Kerala State Human Rights Commission, a commission release said here on Friday. The District Collector has been directed to complete the land acquisition at the earliest, the release said.

GO issued on April 25

The Government Order, the release said, was issued on April 25, based on the decision of a high-level committee meeting held on April 10. Land would be acquired under provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act of 2013. Under the Act, the District Collector can decide the quantum of compensation for the land to be acquired through negotiations with the landowners. The land is proposed to be acquired in survey numbers in the Pettah village.

The State Human Rights Commission had issued the directive for land acquisition for constructing the bridge at Vallakkadavu on March 20 while disposing of a petition filed by a local resident, Rahim. The commission had also ordered proper rehabilitation of those who would stand to lose their land.
