The City police on Wednesday detained Binu alias ‘Kaattalan’ Binu, 30, under sections of the Kerala Antisocial Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA).

The police said Binu, a resident of Mannamoola, near Peroorkada, who was detained under KAAPA for six months from April last year as well, was a goon available for hire and had several cases, including chain-snatching, extortion at knifepoint, assault, and attempt to murder, registered against him from 2010.

He had even posed as a member of the city Shadow Police unit and robbed a student of his identity card and Rs.500.

The latest case against

him was for trying to forcibly take a girl from

her home after abusing

her mother.

This was after

he came out of detention under KAAPA, prompting the police to apply provisions of the Act again against him. — Special Correspondent
