Nearly eight sovereigns of gold ornaments and other valuables were reported to be stolen from a house in Shastri Nagar in Karamana.

According to the Karamana police, the incident was reported on Saturday by Balan, from Tamil Nadu, who lives in a rented house there. Balan, who along with his family, was out of the city for a few days.

Damaged lock

When he returned, he found the lock of the front door damaged. Upon alerting the police, forensic experts inspected the house and collected evidences. Another break-in was reported from the locality on Thursday.

“Around 16 sovereigns of gold have been stolen from another house, where the family had gone on a journey. There are reasons to believe that the two incidents are related. Vital leads have been obtained regarding a gang that targeted houses where the gates have been locked from the outside. This gave the impression that the dwellers were on vacation and that the chances of an immediate return were remote,” an official said.
