Noted film-maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has called for a permanent free space for staging various art forms.

He was speaking after inaugurating a meeting held here on Thursday in memory of venerated dramatist G. Sankara Pillai.

The meeting was held at the Maavaveeyan Veedhi a road which is slated to become a permanent venue for cultural activities.

Later, a sapling was planted by the Veedhi in memory of Sankara Pillai.

It was the late dramatists close associates — playwright S. Ramanujam and actor N. Rajan — who planted the sapling.

A press note issued here said the sapling was planted by the side of the tree planted in memory of poet Kamala Suraiyya.
