The Valiathura police on Friday arrested a 38-year-old man on charge of assuming multiple fake identities to defraud people of money and vehicles.

The accused has been identified as Shine Sathyapalan, who was known by the identities of Dr. Siddique Abdul Rahman and Dr. Shine Sathyapal.

The police said he had told his recent victims that he was the South Asia HR head of Etihad Airlines. He had gone into hiding after hiring a car from Koshy Malayil Jacob, a Mavelikara resident, convincing him that the car was being rented for the Kerala office of Etihad Airlines. He had also produced a fake letter from the Union Ministry of External Affairs for the purpose.

Car, ₹10 lakh stolen

Following an investigation based on a complaint filed by Mr. Jacob to District Police Chief P. Prakash, it was found that the culprit Siddique Abdul Rahman was Shine Sathyapalan from Chirayinkeezhu, who was arrested several years ago by the Shadow Police in a similar case.

The police recovered the car, fake Aadhar card, PAN card, several debit and credit cards, pass books of various banks and a fake letter of the Union Ministry of External Affairs from him.

Two weeks ago, he had used a similar method to steal a car and ₹10 lakh from a Thrissur resident.

He had married several women from Punjab, Delhi and Haryana, after faking his identity as an IAS officer and the head of an airlines company.

There are already two cases against him for cheating two women in Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab. The Punjab police have got in touch with the City police, hearing the news of his arrest. The accused had gone into hiding after securing bail in an earlier case.
