Four-member inter-State gang held

A four-member inter-State gang involved in robbery, house break-ins, arson, and theft in places of worship was arrested by the Medical College police while attempting to loot the Pulikkal temple near Pongumood, here, on Friday night.

The police said the arrested included Pascal, 55, from West Bengal who had recently come out of prison after serving a sentence in the case of arson and theft at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church at Pattoor in the city in September 2004. The others were identified as Madavoorpara Baiju, 28; Ratheesh, 22, and ‘Umbidi' Jayakumar, 48.

Two others held

The Thampanoor police, on Saturday, arrested two persons in connection with a robbery and theft at Valiyasala in the city. The arrested were Yahia, 44, of Chithara and Mohanan, 59, of Vattiyurkavu.

Sheen Tharayil, Circle Inspector, Thampanoor, said the two were held in connection with the robbery and assault on Santosh Kumar, an official of Ayurveda College, and a theft at the house of one Kannan at Valiyasala.
