Former top civil servants offer tips to Chief Minister

To tone up administration and improve service delivery

A slew of measures have been suggested by former Chief Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaries and State Police Chiefs to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to tone up administration and improve service delivery.

The suggestions were aired by the bureaucrats with rich experience in the administration of the State at a meeting convened by Mr. Vijayan at the Government Guest House, Thycaud on Monday. Valuable suggestions were received from the former top civil servants and the practical ones will be implemented, the Chief Minister said after listening to the tips.

Former Chief Secretary, C. P. Nair suggested an intensive drive for the remaining tenure of the present LDF government. The poor should be given immediate service from the government. Steps should be taken to lessen the gap between the public and government, Mr. Nair said.

Better coordination

T. K.A. Nair, former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said delay in implementing administrative decisions should be avoided. Better coordination between the departments is needed.

A Service delivery plan was mooted for the government by the former Chief Secretary, S. M. Vijayanand.

Former Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar suggested setting up a Task Force for the development of the tribal areas. Former Chief Secretary Paul Antony called for more role for the private sector in industrial development.

Former LSG Secretary James Varghese suggested centralised and decentralised waste disposal mechanisms.

Raman Srivastava, John Mathai, Babu Jacob, Sheela Thomas, T. Balakrishan,. Abdul Satharkunju also spoke. Chief Secretary Tom Jose, Planning Board Vice-Chairman V. K. Ramachandran, State Police Chief Loknnath Behra, Principal Secretary to CM, V. S. Senthil and Secretary to CM and IT Secretary M. Shivasankar attended.
