Former IAS officer dead

Vilasini Ramachandran, former Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, died here on Thursday. She was 62. A Gujarat-cadre IAS officer, Ms. Ramachandran was Secretary, Revenue, in the State before moving to the Centre.

She had also worked in Kerala as Joint Commissioner, Rural Development, for a few years.

Daughter of renowned dancer Guru Gopinath, Ms. Ramachandran, as a child, had acted in films such a Moodupadam , Kadalamma , Laila Majnu , Bhaktakuchela , Lilly, and Chilampoli.

She is survived by her husband, Air Commodore (rtd.) K. Ramachandran, daughter, and son. The cremation would take place at the electric crematorium, Thycaud, here on Friday.
