With the probe in the elephant poaching case progressing, an official of the Forest and Wildlife Department has complained of being threatened and intimidated while carrying out her responsibilities.
T. Uma, Divisional Forest Officer, Thiruvananthapuram, has lodged a complaint at the Museum police station against an advocate, identified as Koliyacode Rajeev, and Rajan a.k.a. Eagle Rajan, who is also an accused in the case.
In her complaint, Ms. Uma said that she had been receiving threats ever since the recent arrest of Mini, wife of ‘Eagle Rajan’, from their residence in Pettah. She claimed that she was being the coerced to withdraw from the probe and to release Mini, failing which she would have to face serious consequences.
The advocate had also allegedly told the complainant that he had attempted to arrange a settlement of the issue concerning Aji Bright, another accused in the elephant poaching case, with some forest officials.
The official said that “the first accused, being a lawyer, has surpassed professional decency by conspiring with the second accused to protect him.” She said the accused had been obstructing her from undertaking her official duty and had threatened to put her and her family’s lives in danger by hatching a criminal conspiracy.
