Concerted efforts under the leadership of the city Corporation proved decisive in the city bagging the top rank in the Smart City Challenge, Mayor V.K. Prasanth has said. Technical excellence and steps taken to prepare the project had an equal role to play in the city’s good show, he said.

The Mayor said the civic body had received complete support from all sections of people. The inputs of the technical committee, which included experts, helped finalise the project.

The activities taken up between July last and March this year after being selected for the challenge had helped secure the first position. The Corporation ensured maximum public participation.

The BJP district committee has welcomed the top rank for the city. In a statement here, party district unit president S. Suresh said the city did not figure on the Smart City list in the first two rounds because of inefficient administrators.
