Ethnografilm fete today

The Ethnografilm Festival is back in the city, this time with a huge variety of styles, formats and themes.

The festival will be held from 5.30 p.m. onwards on Saturday at the Fourth Estate Hall of the Press Club here, the festival has the Society for Social Studies of Science and the International Social Science Council joining hands to implement the vision of a festival to celebrate excellence in movies that enhance understanding of the social world.

The event will also have an inspiring gathering of community of filmmakers and scholars for future collaborations.

Film list

The films to be screened on Saturday will include Erminia C. Olucci’s 11-minute Breaking the Chains , which depicts the use of physical restraint and confinement of people with mental illness in Indonesia.

Elizabeth Lo’s eight-minute Hotel-22 , a take on the Line 22 that transforms every night in Silicon Valley from a public city bus into an unofficial shelter for the homeless in one of the richest parts of the world; Juan Antonio Trujillo’s 11-minute Companions: Lessons from Gay Mormon Missionaries ; Wesley Shrum and Greg Scott’s six-minute Light Years , a salute to Augustin Jean Fresnel, the inventor of a lens for lighthouses that was later used for movie and theatre lighting.

Lesley Braun’s nine-minute Congo Super 8 ; Harjant Gill’s Mardistan , which explores what it means to be a man in India; Melissa Langer’s nine-minute-long Terms of Intimacy , an experimental documentary that looks into the emerging industry of professional cuddling.; ate James’ 20-minunte The Real Enemy ; Petr N. Uska’s 12-minute Turning Seventeen and Greg Scott’s 78-minute observational film Matrimony .
