Environmental impact study sought

: Tree Walk, a collective of tree lovers in the capital, has called for an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) by an accredited agency for the 4,200 trees that are to be cut for the four-laning of the NH-66 bypass stretch.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, it also demanded setting up of a monitoring committee to assure that only 4,200 trees will be cut, 491 saved and 40,000 trees planted.

Tree Walk has said that it still believes that there is a chance for envisaging an NH Development programme for Kerala that is based on ecological viability, sustainable development norms and novel concepts in development.
