Electric crematorium work at Maranalloor launched

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has launched the work on an electric crematorium at Maranalloor panchayat.

The crematorium is being set up on 1.65 acres of land purchased by the panchayat using State government share of Rs.50 lakh and with own fund to the tune of Rs.25 lakh.

Mr. Achuthanandan also inaugurated 14 closed circuit television cameras installed at Maranalloor. The panchayat had constituted a town development association to collect funds from firms, cooperative societies, schools and traders to establish cameras. The association collected Rs.4.5 lakh for the purpose.

The panchayat also distributed autorickshaws to 21 unemployed youth belonging to the Scheduled Caste community and distributed computers to students.

Mr. Achuthanandan in his address said local bodies should evolve development and welfare programmes based on requirements of local people.

Speaker N. Sakthan complimented the panchayat for taking up initiatives that would help the local population.
