Edava school gets a fresh lease of life

A lower primary school shut down four years ago owing to shortage of students has been reopened through a collaborative effort of the State government, the alumni, and local people.

The management had closed down the MV LP School at Manthara, Edava in the district, in 2015. The reason was that the school had failed to attract new admissions. Neglected, the buildings began to crumble. What has saved the school is the General Education Protection Mission launched by the government in 2016.

It prompted the panchayat to consider reopening the school.

Mohammed Sadiq, an alumnus, offered financial aid for the renovation of the school buildings. He also donated a bus. The result — 51 students enrolled in the current academic year. Four teachers were appointed too.

V. Joy, MLA, will inaugurate the renovated school buildings on Saturday.
