'Ecofiesta-‘12’ ends with colorful programmes

'Ecofiesta-‘12’ the two-day event organised by Economics Forum of University College in the city concluded here on Wednesday. The concluding day of the festival included quiz and debate competition for college students as well as cultural programmes.

Around 12 colleges from the district and outside participated in the competition events. Asha Ajit and Arya of Department of Economics, Kerala University campus, Karivattom emerged winners in the debate competition. Preethi Ganesh and Robese Thomas, also of the Department bagged the second prize.

In the quiz competition, a team comprising of R. Anita of Government Women’s College and Alwi S. John of College of Engineering Trivandrum won the first prize. The second prize was bagged by Krishnakumar and Bipin Chandran of Mar Ivanios College.

Head of the Department of Economics, University College, Jessy Thomas gave away prizes to the winners at the valedictory function which was followed by cultural programmes.

'Ecofiesta’ is the first inter-collegiate event organised by Economics Forum, a fraternity of students and teachers of the Economics Department of University College. The first day of the event included an economics exhibition. The unique exhibition had on display 3-D models on concepts and theories of Economics, including working models, made by students of the Department.

The programme was inaugurated by University of Kerala pro vice chancellor Dr J. Prabhash. He also released the first issue of the newsletter 'Economia’ brought out by the Department. The quarterly magazine will include articles by students and teachers of the department as well as by guest writers, a statement released here said.

" The Economcis Forum has earlier conducted college level progammes like personality development programme, seminars etc. This is the first time we are conducting such a programme. We received tremendous response, especially for the Economics exhibition. So we will be conducting more such events,’’ said programme convenor Shijo Philip.
