The Thiruvananthapuram City police have commenced a major crackdown on anti-social activities with an intensive search for history-sheeters and notorious goonda. Titled ‘Operation Nagaravetta,’ the drive has been launched in the backdrop of the abduction of an actor in Kochi recently.

A team led by Inspector General Manoj Abraham, Commissioner G. Sparjan Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Arul R.B. Krishna is coordinating the activities. A list of anti-social elements and goons have been published and distributed for immediate action. Those found to be involved in smuggling liquor and narcotic substances would also be brought under the ambit of the drive, officials said.

Acts of violence against women and children will be seriously dealt with. Stringent action will be initiated against sand, earth, and blade mafia groups.

Surveillance and patrolling of the region, including Technopark, will be stepped up by the Cyber City sub-division of the City police. In addition, pink patrol and mobile patrol teams will also strengthened.

There will be police presence at the Kochuveli and Kazhakuttam railway stations, especially during the peak hours.

Mufti patrolling will be intensified to prevent snatching cases and bring to book those responsible in such incidents.

Booked under KAAPA

The City police on Tuesday charged notorious goonda Puthenpalam Rajesh under the provisions of the Kerala Anti-social Activities and Prevention Act (KAAPA) as part of Operation Nagaravetta.

According to the police, Rajesh, who was arrested recently, has been placed under preventive detention for six months on the basis of orders issued by District Collector S. Venkatesapathy. He was apprehended from Pallithura a month ago. Currently lodged in the sub-jail at Poojappura, he is expected to be shifted to Viyyur Central Prison.

He had been earlier apprehended under KAAPA in 2007, 2009, and 2015. Rajesh is known to be involved in over 50 criminal cases.

It is learnt that the City police invoked KAAPA against five habitual offenders on the day.
